Coaching Biographies

Kim Armour:

Kim is new to Cape Coast Volleyball but has been playing volleyball for 28 years.  She played on the 1984 State Championship Volleyball team at Titusville High School as a Middle Blocker and Outside Hitter.  She went on to play at Grand Canyon College in Phoenix, Arizona where she played all positions including setter.  After playing at GCC, she completed her B.S. in Business Administration at Rollins College.  Kim has played volleyball and softball in various club leagues.  Kim has coached in community programs and is President of the Quarterback Club at Cocoa High School.  She has been involved with Cocoa High athletics since 2003 and is very excited to be a part of Cape Coast Volleyball.  Kim and her husband Jason have three children, Wayne, Matthew and Zachary and all are very involved in the community and with athletics.

 

Patrick Barrett:

Barrett, Patrick:  Patrick Barrett has been coaching volleyball locally since 1991. He has taken teams to the high school state tournament while coaching at Melbourne Central Catholic. Patrick also has seven years coaching experience at the collegiate level where his players have earned All Conference honors. He has been coaching club volleyball since 1992 with Harbor City Juniors, Brevard Elite, and Cape Coast. He assisted with the Cape Coast 18's team at USAV Nationals in 2000. Patrick is a USAV Cap Level II certified and is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Pat is currently the head coach at Holy Trinity Episcopal High School.

 

Daren Bolton:

Daren has played volleyball for over 18 years. Some of his experience comes from playing indoors, yet the majority of his time has been spent outdoors, playing 2-man beach volleyball. He plays beach volleyball weekly and has entered into many tournaments throughout Florida. He coaches Varsity Volleyball at Rockledge High School, who had a great season this year, making it to Regionals.  This will be his 5th year coaching at Cape Coast, heeding great results, with several tournament wins with all his teams. This past summer, Daren had the opportunity to return as the Director for CCVC’s Beach Volleyball league. This was the third season for Beach and participation more than quadrupled, from the first season, with over 100 participants. The season was a great success. He received his Impact training in 2007.

 

Sherry Bolton:

This will be Sherri’s third year as an Assistant Coach at Cape Coast .  She serves as an assistant to the Coach of the team, her husband Daren.  Her past volleyball experience has mostly been from watching and supporting her daughter as she plays for the Varsity team at Edgewood Jr. /Sr. High, where she is a Team Mom.  Between Cape Coast , Cape Coast Beach and High school volleyball, she stay’s active in the sport and continues to learn.

 

Peggy Callenberger:

I started my volleyball career playing in San Diego , both high school and  Juniors.  I  played at Northern Arizona University , Div I, 85-88.   Overall I have 10 years of playing experience and 10 years of coaching.  I began coaching in Michigan at Our Lady Star of the Sea- 3rd-8th grades.  I was Head Coach at Regina High School in Detroit Michigan and also coached Grosse Pointe AAU 13 and 14 under.  Upon moving to Florida , I was Head Coach at New Smyrna Beach HS for two years and also coached 14u with Florida Elite for a season.  This will be my third season with Cape Coast .  Cape Coast is an outstanding club and I am honored to be a part of the staff.

 

Connie Denaburg:

Connie has been the director of Cape Coast Volleyball Club for 15 years. She began her coaching career at Merritt Island High School in 1995 as the varsity coach and led them to a 5 straight Cape Coast Conference Titles in the late 1990's and early 2000's. They were District Champs her last 5 years through 2001. She led them to a state finalist appearance in 2001 and finished top 8 in the state for another 3 years. Connie has been coaching club volleyball for approximately 10 years along with her director duties. She has coached 18's, 16's, 13's and now concentrates her efforts on getting the younger ages involved in local leagues, camps and clinics year round. She is currently a 10 & under coach for Cape Coast Volleyball Club. Prior to starting her coaching career, she participated in beach volleyball for eight years and USAV indoor volleyball for ten years. Connie graduated from Carson-Newman College in Tennessee with a B.S. in Accounting and a B.S. in Recreation while playing four years of volleyball and tennis for the Lady Eagles. She later earned an MBA from Nova University and spent ten years working as an accountant at Kennedy Space Center. Connie resides in Merritt Island with her husband Dan and their four children Karly, Mason, Lexy and Brady.

 

Bob Dow

This is my first season being a coach.  I have always loved volleyball and have played leagues off and on since high school.  My older two daughters wanted to learn the sport and I'm excited to inspire and teach all the girls in the 10’s league.  My goal is to help them grow as players while enjoying the process

 

 

 

Michelle Collette:

Michelle is 17 years old and is in her first year of coaching with Cape Coast. She is a senior at Cocoa High School and has played volleyball for 6 years. She played 3 years of varsity volleyball at Cocoa High School as a Middle Hitter and 1 year as outside hitter. She plays beach volleyball for Cape Coast beach and loves coaching and playing volleyball.

Alyssa Friedman:

Alyssa Friedman is 19 years old and currently attending Brevard Community College. She graduated from Merritt Island High School in 2009 where she was a 2 year letterman in both volleyball and basketball. Alyssa has been playing volleyball for 8 years now and recently found coaching as her new volleyball passion.  She was the freshman coach for Merritt Island High volleyball last season and hopes to continue her coaching for years to come.

Linda Gomez:

Linda began her coaching career in South Florida over 20 years ago. After earning several district and regional titles, and a trip to the state volleyball series, she and her family moved to Indialantic and have lived there for over 6 years. After three successful seasons at Brevard Community College in Melbourne, she accepted the head volleyball coaching position at Satellite High School, helping them earn their first Class 5A District title in thirteen years. She has been at Satellite for four years.  Linda earned a BS degree in Physical Education from Florida State University and has a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.  She teaches 6th grade at Imagine Charter School of West Melbourne.  Linda has earned her CAP I, CAP II, and CAP III coaching certification for USA volleyball. She is also a certified IMPACT Instructor teaching entry level volleyball coaches for the USAV Florida Region. Linda has attended many coaching clinics, including the USA High Performance Coaching Clinic in Colorado, and the Gold Medal Squared Coaching Clinic. She has run many camps and clinics, and is currently training coaches through "Get Set", a coaches mentoring program she has designed for local Brevard County coaches. Linda and her husband John have three Katie, Johnny and Sveta.

Jim Guinn:

Jim is beginning his fifth year as a coach for Cape Coast and second year as head coach.  He has been an assistant for 16 regional two years and 14 travel two years.  Jim's 2009 league team sent six girls to high school freshman and junior varsity teams.  He also coaches for Space Coast High School where his JV and freshman teams have won 28 matches over three years.  Jim has been a Div I college and professional strength and conditioning coach.  He received his Impact training in 2007.

 

Jennifer Haight:

This is Jennifer Haight's second year as head coach at Cape Coast. Jennifer has lived in the Brevard County area since 1997.  She has three children, 2 boys and one girl. Jennifer played volleyball, along with many other sports such as gymnastics, softball and basketball all through her school years. She was also involved in a volleyball club that traveled all over Minnesota for 3 years. She still enjoys playing any chance she gets for league and co-ed, for any sport.

 

Ali Hansen:

                                     Ali is in herali 2nd season coaching at Cape Coast, and has also coached at River Cities Thunder Volleyball Club in West Virginia and Merritt Island High School. Ali was a three year varsity letter winner at Merritt Island including team captain in her junior and senior seasons.  During Ali’s career at Merritt Island she was a two time MVP winner and Mustang Award winner.  Ali was a two-time All-Cape Coast team member, and two time Florida Today and Orlando Sentinel All-Cape Coast team member, and played in the Brevard County all-star match.  Ali continued to play college volleyball at Division 1 Marshall University helping Marshall to its first C-USA conference championship and to the NCAA tournament.  Ali has worked numerous Marshall and Merritt Island camps and clinics.  Ali    recently graduated from UCF where she majored in early childhood education. 

 

Robert Hansen:

Rob Hansen is in his 12th year as a coach in club volleyball. Rob has 10 years of Head Coaching experience with Cape Coast Volleyball and Space Coast Volleyball as well as 5 years as an assistant coach with Cape Coast Volleyball Club and Space Coast Juniors. Rob as been the head coach of Merritt Island ’s Junior Varsity Volleyball team for five years (13-0 record in 2008) and varsity assistant coach (4 time defending Cape Coast Conference champions). In 2008,  Rob’s 16-Regional team finished ranked 15th in the Florida USAV Region.  Their best finishes were finished T-3rd in the Florida Region AAU tournament and T-5th in the Florida Region USAV Club division and 33rd (out of 164 teams) in the Big South USAV Qualifier.  Rob’s CCVC travel and regional teams have finished with better than a 70% match winning percentage. Rob received his Volleyball IMPACT training prior to the 1998 season, in 1999 received his Coaching Accreditation Program (CAP) level I certification, and completed his CAP level 2 training in 2005.

 

Bob Hollabaugh:

Bob has been active in coaching youth sports since Graduating College in
1988. Bob's athletic background stems from 18  years of youth to collegiate
wrestling where he was a 2 time Junior Olympic Champion. He has coached
wrestling, soccer and volleyball and joined Cape Coast Volleyball in 2007.
He is now soley dedicated to the sport of volleyball and coached his
daughters, Michaela & Alexandra, which both are in their 2nd year at the
Nike National level. Bob's youngest daughter, Shayna, now plays for the Cape
Coast Nike 10's team. He is currently the JV coach at Rockledge High school,
leading the Raiders JV team to a 16-2 record in 2009. Bob and his wife,
Bonita, own an Environmental manufacturing company and Plastics extrusion
company they started shortly after being married in 1989.

Alexis Jacobs:

Alexis (Lexi) is seventeen years old and this will be her first year coaching at the Cape Coast Volleyball Club for the 12’s.  Lexi is in her junior year at Viera High School having played 3 years of volleyball there.  She started playing volleyball in summer camp (Mel’s ) at the age of 12 and then played 3 years of volleyball at Ascension Catholic.  Her 5 years with Cape Coast Volleyball began on the 12 Gold Team with coach Linda Gomez breaking her in on the AAU experience.   She has participated in several summer camps and the last 2 years competed outdoors in the Cape Coast Beach Volleyball league run by coach Daren Bolton.  Lexi played several seasons of soccer in Massachusetts and Florida, but volleyball became her passion.  This indoor season she is playing on the Cape Coast 18’s Regional Volleyball Team.  She is anxious in her first year coaching to pass along the knowledge, training and skills she has acquired from all the other great coaches in the club, but more the love of playing the game.

Pete Klonowski:

Pete was a member of the University of Evansville Volleyball Club from 1983-1987.  He competed in Open level indoor and beach tournaments for over ten years.  Pete coached at Merritt Island High School from 1997-1998 and again from 2000-2002.  He was assistant head coach when the Lady Mustangs were the 2001 Class 4A State Finalist.  Pete is in his sixth year coaching for Cape Coast Volleyball Club.  He was worked primarily as the head coach of either the 18 National or 15 National teams.  He and his wife Lisa have three children, Hannah age 9 ½, Jack age 7 and Ava 2 ½ years old.

 

 

David Meader:

In 2009  I was the freshman coach at Rockledge High and I also coach intramurals at Jackson Middle School were I have been teaching for seven years.  I am a member of the  Florida Athletic Coaches Association.

 

 

Luisa Montoya:

 

Luisa Montoya is 18 years old and a student at Brevard community college. She graduated from Merritt Island high school where she was a part of the mustang program for 4 years .Luisa has played volleyball for cape coast since 7th grade.  This will be her second year coaching!

 

Anson Mullen:

Anson played competitive indoor volleyball for more than 15 years. While serving in the US Air Force, he was the starting setter for five USAV Regional Championship teams and was selected to four Military Airlift Command all-tournament teams. Anson began his coaching career in 1994 with an 18-National boys team where he successfully lead the team to a top 30 finish at the Junior Olympics. In 1999, Anson began competing professionally in mixed martial arts events throughout Nevada and Utah. Injuries brought him back to coaching his first love, volleyball. In 2006, he took the Head Coaching position at Churchill County High School in Fallon, Nevada. His team finished with a Class 3-A District runner-up title and top four finishes at the state tournament.  Parents from his high school team persuaded him to start coaching club at Capital City Volleyball, in Carson City, Nevada. He was the head coach of the 17-National team where he is proud to say that all ten players received scholarships and went on to compete at the collegiate level. Anson has had the privilage of working with Coach Jim Saari and Steve George (who combined have helped two Division I teams win three National Titles). Anson lives in Rockledge with his wife Shelly and youngest daughter Sierra. He has two older children, Dennis and Sage, currently attending college in Reno, Nevada.

 

Eric Murray:

Eric is beginning his third year as a coach for Cape Coast Volleyball Club.  This is also his second year as a head coach at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School in Indialantic.  During the 2009 season he led the team to an undefeated season becoming the 2009 champions. He has been playing Volleyball for over 28 years. He grew up in Puerto Rico where he played JV and Varsity in High School winning several high school tournaments and becoming one of the top high school teams in PR. Eric is also helping Cape Coast Volleyball Club athletes in the area of sports conditioning. He is an experienced certified personal trainer with over 12 years of experience helping athletes and non-athletes of all ages and fitness levels to reach their goals safely and effectively.

 

Tavia Muzzi:

Tavia Muzzi has been coaching volleyball for seven years and played volleyball since Jr. High School.  In college Tavia played on the first Baylor Women’s Club Volleyball team which began her Junior year for two years. Check out the website: http://www3.baylor.edu/rec_sports/club_sports/womens_volleyball/main.html .  Tavia coached volleyball for two years while in college at Reicher Catholic High School along with basketball, one year at Carter Junior High along with basketball & track, two years at Tupelo High School along with track, Mississippi State Volleyball Camps for one summer, and is currently coaching volleyball (two years) and softball (first year) at Cocoa High School where she teaches AP Human Geography and World History.  This year will be Tavia’s second year to coach with Cape Coast Volleyball.

Mekenzie Nie:

Mekenzie was born and raised in Melbourne Fl. She played four years of Varsity Volleyball in High School. She also played club volleyball for CCVC for four years. After graduation Mekenzie went to BCC and was coaching the J.V. volleyball team for her local high school. She has now been coaching club volleyball since 2005. Mekenzie has coached the 14’s, 16’s, and 17’s age levels.  After coaching the 14’s age level, 5 out of 8 girls made the Junior Varsity team at their High School and 1 out of 8 made Varsity at their High School as freshman. Mekenzie currently resides in Melbourne where she works full time and is attending college to receive a B.A. in Organizational Management.

 

Gayla Passmore:

Gayla has been involved with the sport of volleyball for many years. She played volleyball in high school, college and power mixed leagues in Kansas City, Missouri. She has followed her daughter Paula throughout her years of club volleyball, high school and currently college volleyball for the past 10 years. The love of the sport keeps bringing her back. Gayla's mission is to teach young athletes to love the sport of volleyball while building self esteem and confidence that will follow them throughout their life. Gayla and her husband Dan have 2 children, Chad and Paula and live on Merritt Island.

 

 

 Angie Patrick:

Angie Patrick grew up in Wisconsin where her family still lives. Her high school team won a state championship her senior year. She attended college at Florida Tech, receiving a BS in Science Education/Biology. Angie was a 4- year starter for the Florida Tech Panthers and in 1996 was named Female Scholar-Athlete of the year. Her senior year she named to the Sunshine State All-Conference team. She has coached for the Harbor City Juniors (4 years), Daytona Beach Juniors (3 years), Embry-Riddle University assistant coach (2 years), and is has been the head coach at Merritt Island High School for 6 years. Merritt Island volleyball had a four-peat season this year winning district and conference undefeated for four years in a row. Angie was named the Cape Coast and All-Space Coast coach of the year for 2005 & 2006. Angie and her husband Ron have a 5 year old daughter Jordyn, 2 year old son Shane, and two dogs Swish and Hunter.

Kori Simpson:

This is Kori’s first year coaching volleyball at Cape Coast.  She has played volleyball for several years with Cape Coast and Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School.  This was her first year on Varsity at Edgewood and her second year playing at a national level for Cape Coast.  Her team finished 9th out of 126 teams at the Big South Qualifier last year.  During the summer she spends her time playing beach volleyball for Cape Coast under Coach Daren and attends volleyball camps at University of Florida.

  

 

Sarah Smith:

This is Sarah's 4th year coaching with Cape Coast, she played volleyball for 5 years, 3 of which were for Cape Coast and still is addicted to the game. She loves teaching young players; sharing her love for the game and watching them grow as competitors and people. She graduated from Eau Gallie in 2008 and just graduated from BCC this December and is planning to go to UCF's nursing school next fall. In the mean time she can't wait for this season assisting Linda Gomez for the 13 Nike team.

Sarah Sykes grew up in Brevard County and went to Satellite High School where she played volleyball and tennis. She was the 2-time Cape Coast Volleyball Player of the Year and 4-time Tennis Player of the Year. Sarah then received a full volleyball scholarship to the University of Kentucky. At UK Sarah holds the record for most kills in a single match, is among the top three in Kentucky history in Kills, Attempts, Digs and Aces. Sarah decided to stay in Kentucky and received her Master’s in Education while coaching the Lexington Select 17's National Team. Sarah has been the Head Varsity Coach at Viera High School for the past 3 years. Sarah is married to Joshua Sykes, teacher and basketball coach at Viera High School; they live in Satellite Beach with their dog Sammy and had their first child in December 2008.

 

Quynh Tang:

Quynh started playing volleyball in junior high and high school in Midlothian Va. She also played for NC State and graduated in 1992.  She has 4 girls and they all play volleyball together. In her spare time se enjoys doing yoga.

Herbert Tokumoto:

Place of Birth: Honolulu HI, Played Volleyball from 1971 – Current Played in USAF (1976-1990) USAF Volleyball Team 1978-1979. Locations:  California, Japan, Korea, Germany, Guam, Hawaii.  Coaching Experience: 2000–2004 Rockledge Head Coach, 2005-2007 assistant coach at Merritt Island Christian School (MICS), 2007 – 2008 assistant at Brevard Community College (BCC), 2008 – Current Head Coach at Brevard Community College, 9th yr Cape Coast Volleyball Club.  Started playing volleyball in 1971 when it was not a popular sport, played indoors and beach till he went into the Air Force.  The type of job he had offered him the opportunity to travel all over the world. Herb was able to play with and learn from some of the best players and coaches in the world, he has lived here in Florida for the past 19 yrs playing indoors and beach volleyball.  Cap 1 and Impact certified 9th year coaching for Cape Coast.

 

Kim Tokumoto:

Kim was born and raised in Merritt Island, graduating from MIHS in 1983, she graduated from Barry University with a degree in psychology.  She has assisted on various Cape Coast teams from 2000-present.  Kim also assisted her husband Herb coach volleyball at Rockledge High School from 2000-0004 and is currently volunteering for the Brevard Community College Lady Titan Volleyball Team. She is a volunteer for the American Red Cross and certified instructor in emergency response, first aid and CPR and lifeguarding. Kim is USAV Cap I certified.

 

Ty Weekley:

Ty is a Florida native who was born in Miami and then moved to Merritt Island when he was 2 years old.  He was a pitcher/third baseman for the Merritt Island High School Mustangs and graduated from there in 1984.  This is Ty’s second season coaching the 10's.  His last season was very successful with the girl's bringing home several gold and silver medals in their division.  His interest in volleyball started when his oldest daughter started playing at the high school and club level. She is the reason that his youngest daughter has such a passion for this sport.  Ty is hoping to help keep that passion alive by coaching in the 10’s league. He looks forward to developing these young girl’s skills.

Jeff has coached varsity volleyball and travel-level club volleyball for several years.  He currently teaches English and coaches varsity volleyball at Edgewood HS. Back in the proverbial day, he played as a middle on his high school team and currently plays regularly in a recreational league.
